A Girl With Deception (A Discussion About an Open Window Have you ever been deceived? Would you know if you were using deception to your advantage? Most of the time you know when you are being deceptive but sometimes it can just happen in the moment. Deception is when you are using a trick to get what you want. You will manipulate your words so that the person will believe what you are saying. This has become very popular over the last generation and has made it extremely hard to trust anything people say. Clearly, deception is definitely seen throughout this short story at many different times. First of all, you can see deception through how the author portrays the little girl at the beginning. In the beginning he act as if the girl is nervous and scared to talk to the man who has just showed up at the house. The man was there in search of solving a nerve cure. You would think this little girl would be a little nicer to this man since she doesn 't know him but no she takes full on advantage of it. You can tell the fifteen year old girl is getting the idea to deceive this man when she says, “Then you know practically nothing about my aunt?". Earlier in the short story, the child asks the man how well he knows the aunt so she can see what she is capable of getting away with. When the man says he doesn 't the child takes full advantage of his vulnerability and goes all out with deception. This author created a build up which almost convinced the reader that the men were dead. In fact it was rather comedic at the end when the man takes off and then the daughter blames it all on the dog. Comedy is definitely one way to draw the attention of someone.
