Deception is what makes us human as seen in the books, The Color Purple, Medea, Cyrano De Bergerac, A Clockwork Orange and Othello. The theme of Deception occurs in all of the books, but it occurs for different reasons and in different ways. In the five books we see, a husband deceive a wife out of spite, the deception of a husband for revenge, the deception of a cousin out of misguided love, an adolescent who deceives people for fun, and the deception of a friend due to jealousy. It is a part of human nature to lie and the characters in these books are shining examples of our natural deceptive nature.
In the books The Color Purple and Medea the characters carry out their lies to enact their anger and spite on those they believe have wronged them. In Medea, Medea feels betrayed by her husband and after crying for a bit decides she will get even with him.
