As a young child, Independence Day was all about fun, family, fireworks and watermelon. Now, as an adult, I realize July 4th is that and much more as we celebrate freedom. It commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence signed in 1776 hence making the United States a new nation. Americans cherish the freedom received because of the sacrifices made. Freedom came with a great cost that was paid for something so treasured.

As believers, we have an even greater reason to celebrate freedom whereas we are set free from the penalty of sin. Jesus paved the way to our freedom on the cross. He made the ultimate sacrifice,paying the price in full for our sins. We gained that freedom the very moment we accepted Jesus a our Lord and Savior. “He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.” -1 Timothy 2:6 …show more content…

Before we were saved, we were slaves to sin. Now, because of Jesus, we have the power to overcome the bondage of sin as we walk in obedience to God’s commands.

As we celebrate the 4th of July remembering the freedoms we have as Americans, let us also thank God for His provision of freedom of sin and death through Jesus.
