Americans weren’t sure if they were going to have the freedom under British rule in the
1700’s. But that all changed on July 4th, 1776. Thomas Jefferson with a few other Founding
Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence. This was a document that Jefferson wrote to
Britain saying that they did not want to be under Britain’s rules anymore. They wanted to be free because they felt that Britain was controlling them too much. The document is a true example of
‘Patriotism’ and inspires Americans until this day. The document is significant because not only did it show the struggles of America trying to be free but it taught us that ‘All men are created equal’. In a few days, Jefferson created the document that changed American lives forever. He created the Declaration of Independence.
The document first starts off as with the preamble. The preamble states, “We hold these truths to be self­evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of
Happiness.”. This means that everyone is born with the same rights. Jefferson then listed many things that King George did wrong to the colonies in America. The document went under many changes before it was finalized. The document goes into many other parts but this was the main reason of it.
The Declaration of Independence had a great impact to the American people because it is what led to our independence from King George III. It made our right to go against a government that no longer guaranteed us our rights. It also helped us to get increased help from France in our fight to become free from King George III. It also stated ideas that the colonists believed were important for them to have such as liberty and equality.
