The colonists desired a sense of freedom and power that was not obtained by the sovereign rule of England, so they instituted an improved governmental system that resolved most of their concerns, but was not without faults. The way England was controlling and monarchially put doubts and frustration in the minds of the commonfolk in America who felt used and dissatisfied (Doc 1). As a result, the Declaration of Independence was written that renounced the jurisdiction of Great Britain and gave themselves the independence. This also had the negative impact of the descent into fighting and the allegiance issue (Doc 2). Shown in document 3, there was a separation of the population in the colonies because some remained loyal to the crown.

The Declaration of Independence, penned and published on July 4th 1776, is perhaps the most famous document in the short history of human rights. Written largely by Thomas Jefferson, it is the first succinct, unashamedly loud declaration of the equal rights of man. The Declaration took the philosophy of men like Hobbes and Locke and put it into practice, deciding that the “self-evident” rights of man could no longer be abused by tyrannical government. The Declaration affirms that the rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” were written “Laws of Nature” that every man should be afforded equally and without limitations. It also declares that the oppression of rights is wrong and tyrannical.

First, to understand the grievances of the Declaration of Independence we must also understand why it was created. Originally it was written to explain to the British Crown, as well as other foreign nations of whom it might be of interest, why the colonists wanted to separate from Great Britain. It listed many corrupt things that were taking place, the wrongdoings of the Crown, as well as what the colonists wanted to do in order to make all of them right once again. This, in part, also lead to escalations in the early days of the Revolutionary War.

Lucas, The Declaration of Independence is sectioned into five main parts: the introduction, the preamble, the indictment of George III, the denunciation of the British, and the conclusion (Lucas). The introduction and the preamble of this document are written in an elevated, formal style to show their significance and importance. The indictment of King George III occurs later in the document as a way to soften the attack on the current government. The criticism of the British also is done later in the document and in a simple, common style using shorter sentences.

Even though Britain had helped them on their path, the colonist 's believed it would have been better to secede from the mother country. Based on the events that occurred before passing the declaration, I would also sign the Declaration of Independence. Britain has done oppressive things (taxes and a variety of laws) that it would be justifiable to sign the declaration.
