The article Declaration of Sentiments and Resolution written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, her topic and argument in the text is that women should have the same rights as men. Also Stanton argues that since the declaration states that men and women are created equally that mean women should be treated the same as men. God did not created one person to rule over another person. Stanton also stated that she does not distant herself from the blacks and slaves, but she sees herself as one of them. Stanton believes that everyone has inalienable rights: “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. In many ways women were identical to African Americans slaves. Those who were black could bot own land, so do women. African Americans were denied their rights to participate in many things; such as they don’t have the right to vote, church activities and etc. Perhaps that worst things of all women like being treated slaves, so they could not better than men. The word slave means someone’s property. In most respects, women were regarded as the property of men, just like African slaves. In fact women were so similar to African slaves that the only difference between the two was that women were considered free, but women were not really free. Women at that time is a slave in the house and listen to their husband’s order and can’t participate in any politics events or own anything. Stanton used a lot of logic, reasons and examples to explain how women were not treated like what the declaration stated.
