In the short story “ Harrison Bergeron” written by Kurt Vonnegut the solemn, melancholy and nightmarish moods are expressed by the theme and figurative language, and it helps the reader understand better the story. Vonnegut used simile to describe when the buzzer went off in George's head(22). Also, when Harrison showed how easy it was to take off the handicaps showing that it was as fragile as tissue paper(25). People were impressed on how easy it was to take the handicap off. Vonnegut used hyperbole to describe events that were exaggerated.
The theme off the story is successes of doing right and tragedy of doing wrong. The theme is oblivious after reading through the book. Wes Moore wrote in the introduction “our destinies can be determined by a single stumble down the wrong path, or a tentative step down the right one.” I believe this is what he is trying to teach us about humanity through his work. Nikky Finney's book Head Off and Split is a work of art in every sense. It combines both historical elements and personal elements. She shines the light on our countries habit of oppressing and enslaving African Americans. She masterfully weaves together the history of the time and her own memories in an unabashed way that lays bare the wrongdoings of our country. Forcing the reader to see part of our history that is often glossed and skimmed over in conventional textbooks.
So why is this theme important? Why should the reader care. This theme is important because it shows how alcohol can affect and damage lives. It shows the aftermath of getting drunk and what horrible things can happen while you are drunk. It is important to know that this might happen to the reader if they consume alcohol.

Connor announced in July that the Indians North of the platte River “must be hunted like dogs.” There were many times in the book where it locked like the Indians were being targeted by everyone. It said, “When the bluecoats gunfire grew too overwhelming, the Sioux would draw away”, so that shows that even after they tried to quit the bluecoats still fired. Even though they were treated like crap, They still didn’t give up.

This falls under the theme category because it is saying love itself changes the way you are as a person but it also has its blindness. The “blindness” is not so much of not being able to see them physically but how they truly are as a person. A person can be very depressing, arrogant, or even abusive but the person in love will see past it hence the term blind.
Drifters by Bruce Dawe “Why have hope?”, is the question raised in the poem “Drifters” by Bruce Dawe. Bruce Dawe’s poem explores how change can damage a family 's relationship and cause them to drift apart. This poem has underlying and straight forward themes depicted about change. Straight forward depiction is the physical movement of the family from place to place and not everyone is in favour of this change. The very first line of the poem, “One day soon he’ll tell her it’s time to start packing”, supports the inevitable change that no one else has a say in except the man.
