When you think of success what comes to mind? In sports it’s making it to the pros. In business it’s making your first million. In high school it can be as simple as acing that test you studied for all night. No matter what profession you are in, success is the desired goal.

Failure, the thing or idea most people dread. At one point or another everyone has associated this word with themselves or something they've done. Through having GPA requirements, service hour requirements, and the overwhelming motivation to stay in the program, it helped me stay focused and improve my schoolwork and effort I put into school.

Steven Spielberg was rejected from film school three times, Walt Disney was told he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas” and, Vincent Van Gogh sold a single piece of art in his lifetime. As far as I know, they were anything but failures. Their “failure” was the epitome of what their legacy became. Even though these stories are true, failure is still a hard thing for many people to embrace with joy — I do not think I blame them. Failure is hard, whether it is a bad grade, not getting into your dream college, or from my personal experience; not getting the job I spent weeks anticipating and preparing for.

Abounding numbers of people over the years have just completely failed; however, the fail ended up not being a total loss after all because it ended up leading to a tremendous success. A extraordinary example of a person who was a failure in school, but then continued to be a monumental success in his later life is Steve Jobs. Jobs dropped out of college it just was not for him, after all college is not for everybody. At the time Jobs was doing nothing huge with his life and later he went along to do work with bigger companies. Jobs started doing work with a company that would one day become Pixar Studios he then met his partner for Apple, Steve Wozniak, and worked with him.
Only one recent failure that I have experienced can come to my mind: the arrest of my band director Bridgett Szychulski. Our band director had left our school in handcuffs halfway through our marching season. The hopes and dreams that had overtaken the students had dissipated and was then replaced with sadness and an overwhelming feeling of betrayal. I had convinced myself that since I was the leader of this band I had failed them. I somehow should have, could have, done something to help them.
In our world, people usually associate success with either money, money, or money. Success shouldn’t be about how much money we earn, how good our job is, or how famous we are. It should be about our own personal goals and aims in life. I think everyone’s definition of success is different. For each individual, success is something that makes them feel proud.

In life you’re going to make mistakes, but it’s up to you to learn from the mistakes that you made. Admitting your wrong doings can be a bit tough. Learning from mistakes can be a good or a bad thing. Putting yourself in situations where you have the self-confidence to own up to it can be a mistake you can learn from in a good way. Once you realize what you have done, you can avoid making the same mistakes again.
One person’s failure may mean success to another. For many years, the environment we grow in, people tend to view progress in ways like having much wealth and being famous. The myth about success has been so rampant even in our advertisements and other marketing techniques as compared to the reality (Hines, pg7). Many people, however, tend to believe in the situation. Although owning a big house, becoming a president of United States like Barrack Obama among others can be a success for such individuals, this does not provide the real definition of success.
