Failure, the thing or idea most people dread. At one point or another everyone has associated this word with themselves or something they've done. Although failure may seem inescapable and is bound to get you at least once, there's always a way out. My way out of failure was NJHS, National Junior Honors Society. Through having GPA requirements, service hour requirements, and the overwhelming motivation to stay in the program, it helped me stay focused and improve my schoolwork and effort I put into school. NJHS is a program across the nation meant for middle school students. To join the program you have to fill out an application and be accepted, then the real challenge starts. In order to remain a part of the program there are a set of rules or requirements set for students. For example, students in NJHS must maintain a GPA of 3.8 or higher for the school year to remain in the program. Having this GPA rule can motivate students to try hard and put their best effort into assignments and tests. While at first this seemed like a challenge since this rule would only allow room for one B grade per quarter, it pushed me to improve my study habits and put more effort into everyday things such as homework and classwork. Giving back to the community is a great way to learn and grow as a person, making this requirement one for the moral status of students instead of focusing on the academic status. For example, needing 10 service hours before the end of the year is the required amount of hours for NJHS. Having this rule in place helped me grow as a person and learn how it feels to give back to the community and help people. One of the events I remember is helping out at 5th grade night and helping the future students of Creekside learn their way around the school.
