Another accomplishment of Jeicy’s is getting into the National Society of High School Scholars, and the Hazleton Junior Leadership program. For NSHSS, she didn’t have to do anything but maintain good grades. A letter came in the mail one day with an invitation code. To accept the invitation, all she had to do was

Overall, no matter where along their journey within the Department, each interviewee identified a high point focused upon a sense of pride and a sense of tradition in becoming a firefighter. The feelings provided to each interviewee by each high point only fostered and fueled the impetus that caused each interviewee to initially volunteer as a member of the Department. This only confirmed how much each person who is a member of the Department is really proud of what they do and has a sense of pride in their work along with the conviction that they are each doing something for the greater good of their
Since I was ten years old, I have been a member of the Young Marines, a program dedicated to the enrichment of youth. Aside from my family and school, this organization has had an incredible impact on my life, not only providing me with many unique and amazing experiences, but by shaping the foundation of my character by instilling in me the three core principles of the Young Marines: Discipline, Leadership, and Teamwork and also by emphasizing the importance of community service. I have had many amazing and unique experiences as a Young Marine which included the challenges of promotion to become the senior ranking officer, learning many new skills such as CPR, teaching Drug Demand Reduction, leading and mentoring the members of the Unit, going on encampments and traveling. In my sophomore year, my Unit Commander, a Korean War veteran, selected me to travel with him to Seoul. Every few years he chooses a Young Marine to take to South Korea based on merit.

National Honors Society Essay I am very grateful for this opportunity to apply and potentially be a part of the National Honors Society. I strongly believe that I improved throughout my years at Watertown High School. I have grown into someone who cares more about the community, peers, and academic success and progress. Being involved in a variety of clubs and participating in many events for my community opened my eyes and directed me to gain qualities of service, leadership, and character. For many reasons, there’s been a position where I needed to participate in community service.
I have also received first or highest honors with all progress reports. During this year, so far, my lowest grade was a ninety-five. Even with these outstanding academic achievements, I still want to make a difference in the world. Within the last couple of years, I played with a group for The Salvation Army in order to raise money around Christmas time for the less fortunate. I am part of the marching band which is a large commitment, but my participation in all activities done by the band shows my enjoyment and dedication in this co-curricular activity.
* My desire to join is formed on the recognition that my time and memories in high school are not valued on how many good grades I got, but on how I did something that I was proud to have accomplished. In my eyes, that is done by making tangible improvements in my character, by taking academic risks that test my character, and by impacting
Regardless of where my future leads me, I want to establish a high ethical standard and provide a positive contribution to society. Since I was young, my family has always stressed the importance of commitment. They’d used to say, “Go big, or go home!” I kept those words in mind throughout my high school experience. Whether it is tennis, AP classes, or extracurricular activities, I’ve committed myself to be the best that I can be.

While it required time management skills to balance all these things, the lessons I learned were invaluable. I found that the key to success was to connect to the people I was serving and to learn from those who had come before me. By focusing on these things I have been fortunate enough to win recognition in these areas and feel the satisfaction of mastering a skill. In fact, this is my mindset towards
