National Honor Society Essay

List the activities, clubs, and honor societies in which you are currently/will be involved in (this year and next). *

Currently, I am involved in Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and Science Olympiad. Next year, I plan to continue the same clubs with the addition of Mu Alpha Theta.

Explain why you are interested in joining the Academic Council. *

My desire to join is formed on the recognition that my time and memories in high school are not valued on how many good grades I got, but on how I did something that I was proud to have accomplished. In my eyes, that is done by making tangible improvements in my character, by taking academic risks that test my character, and by impacting

However, one of the main impacts I want to make at the Academic Council is to create an even stronger support system for students with regards to academics. I could do this by improving and working on the current events (Cocoa Cram, SAT/ACT prep) and by creating new ones. Although I believe events such as this are better thought out as a collection of minds, I do think that we could create, for example, a more coordinated system for tutoring between all the honor societies. This would allow students to get help, while those tutoring could get volunteer hours much easier (especially with broad clubs such as NHS). Something else I would be open to creating a difference in for the Academic Council is coordinating more socially competitive events (ex. Trivia Night, Fossil’s Got Talent), which positively impact the culture of Fossil. What I am hoping to get out of the Academic Council and related experiences is that I not only create an impact that I can be proud of (as said before), but also the first-hand experience of being part of an impactful committee. Through this first hand experience, I hope to learn new skills and to be able to feel a sense of community with the people I am with. Having this would allow me to develop as a person and feel connected to Fossil in a way I was unable to experience
