NHS Personal Statement If I am accepted into National Honor Society, I believe I can make a lasting positive impact on the organization. With my academic aptitude, strong work ethic, and positive attitude, I know I can greatly benefit both the society and others outside of the society. Firstly, as my academic record shows, I am extremely motivated to do well and achieve good grades.
The National Honor Society (NHS) stands by such values as Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and character; it is these values that I strive to live by. I have received the opportunity to become a proud member of the NHS, and have been humbled by this chance. Throughout my high school career I try to be involved in anything I can help the school, from being a part of community service activities. Also, I have achieved my goal to work as hard as I possibly can to stand out among my peers. Even outside of school I have worked to uphold the values of club, and shall continue to do so if I chosen.
The National Honor Society is built upon four founding principles: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. I have a high school life filled with dedication to these four principles on the Spiritual standpoint, the Familial level, the Community level and finally at the National level. Moreover, I did begin my dedication to these same four principles even before this starting with the Boy Scouts of America and this commitment will continue along with having a rich future when I reach my fullest potential. I firmly believe that to have academic excellence is giving your best effort to maintain not just having straight As and a high GPA at or close to the edge of attaining a 4.0, but to also have the skills that help you perform your very best in college and beyond. Being one of the top 20 in my class with a GPA of 4.4, I take it as my duty to help my community. Not only do I strive to set an example for my fellow classmates of hard work and dedication, but I also try to further along those that are behind. For example, I tutor my intellectually handicapped neighbor in whatever subject he needs. It fills me with pride and joy to see him improve, knowing that I had an influence on that improvement. That pride and joy is something that I would love to continue to experience working with the National Honor Society to help better my community.
I was not privileged to be born into an affluent family, yet I took this as a reason for me to excel in everything I do and make sure that my future would not be plagued by hardships. As most people, English was not first language, but I took it upon myself to learn, and demonstrate that I have the potential to succeed in everything that I attempt. I learned that if you want something in life, then you have to work hard, I always had it set out that someday I would attend a University, but this was often difficult to comprehend when my father is the sole provider of my family’s income. Not only will I be the first in my family to graduate from High School, but I have the opportunity to be the first to attend and graduate from a University. I am truly honored to be among the excellent students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. This organization does great things, and I want to make a difference in the lives of others and make the world a better place. Because of my abilities and experiences as a student, I believe I can be considered a strong candidate for the NHS. I have demonstrated the scholarship, leadership, character, and service qualities necessary to join the society.
I would like to start off by saying thank you for considering me for the National Honors Society. It has been a desire of mine since I started high school to be in the National Honors Society. School is my main focus. Last year my grade point average was about a 3.7 and with this school year, I am going to work hard to raise it. I am in band, FCCLA, and Trend.
It is an honor to be nominated for the National Honor Society. The fact that I was nominated proves to me that all of my hard work and dedication has not been for nothing. The National Honor Society is known for recognizing students who strive to achieve their best not only in school but in themselves and the community. I believe that I’m one of those students. Based upon my last two year at Matawan Regional I now have a 3.9 GPA and am ranked in the top 20% of my graduating class.
God has blessed me with every type of love: love of a teacher, love of a friend, love of family, and most importantly his love. Altogether, the love from my teachers, friends, parents, and Heavenly Father has shown me what love should be like, unconditional and limitless. Their examples of love have inspired me to spread my love also. Not only to my family, but also the entire community.
Throughout the years, I have been fortunate to receive many opportunities to learn about and serve my community in many different ways. One of my earliest memories of service comes from the Virginia Living Museum, where I began working as a Touch Pool volunteer when I was eleven years old. It was there that I began to learn what service meant to me. To serve was to teach, and to bring my knowledge and ideas to new people every time I volunteered. It meant becoming a part of my community and giving back to the people I cared about the most.
Moreover, I have worked very hard throughout high school to better myself and those around me in the many ways mentioned above. I also serve as a role model, both inside the classroom and out, by pushing myself to accomplish goals even I do not always believe I could, always respecting others and listening attentively to the opinions of people around me, and making an effort to enrich the lives of others. I am hopeful the National Honor Society will help me develop this further, and thank you for taking hte time to read my application.
I am extremely honored to be eligible for this opportunity to apply for the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. Overall, I have worked incredibly hard these last two years to display a positive character and obtain qualities such as leadership, responsibility, and scholarship. This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. Being considered means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is an enormous responsibility to which I will fully devote my time. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be among the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”.
