Grade Requirement for Extracurricular Activities

High school is one of the most important times of our lives. It is a time where we learn what we want to do with our lives, what we want to major in college, what jobs we want, and if we want to play sports. Sports can be a very important thing to kids, and be a huge part of their lives. They are enjoyable, can keep kids healthy, and are a good use of your time; however, they can sometimes get in the way of what’s more important, including school. I believe that high school students should be required to have a certain GPA to participate in extracurricular activities because it forces students to be responsible with their time, helps kids focus on their school work, and will result in a better life.

Something that kids nowadays don't have is time management. There is so much going on, and so many distractions in today’s world, so kids aren't using their time efficiently. Forcing kids to have a certain GPA will give the students motivation to use their time wisely. High school sports can take up a lot of time, and when kids get home from a tough practice they may not want to do homework, or study. The student will be more focused on school, knowing that if they don't work hard they may be kicked off the team. Schoolwork always comes first, but coaches and peers may pressure the student athletes into spending more time with their extra circulars, when they should be worrying about school. This may cause students to realize when they need to take a day off of sports, and spend a little time hitting the books.
