There is a lot of controversy about if college athletes should get paid for playing the sport they love to play. So, the question is, should college athletes get paid? There are many people who feel that college athletes should get paid, and many who feel that they shouldn’t get paid. When I say many people, I am talking about the players themselves, fans watching, sport critics, and an overall general of people who have interest in sports. Many of those people feel that by paying college athletes that the sport will start to become a business, they are already being paid by getting scholarship money, and lastly because Title IX will end up being a big factor. On the other side many people feel that the college athletes should get paid because they bring a lot of income to the school, their commitment in time to the school and sport, and they have a higher standard and rules when it comes to their academics. College athletes at the division I and II level already have a lot of pressure to play well and to win titles for their school. College athletes are required to keep up with a certain GPA and have to take so many credits each semester to be eligible to play that particular sport. The athletes are being pushed more than a student that isn’t in a sport. Students who aren’t in a sport don’t have to worry as much about making sure their grades are constantly up and staying eligible for something. If the player is not keeping up with that end of the deal than they can suffer the consequences like not being able to play a certain amount of games or even being kicked off the team.
