Suicide according to Videbeck (2008) is an act of self-infliction with intent of killing oneself that involves ambivalence and it is more common in individuals with mood disorders such as depression. Suicide is the leading cause of death among young adults and the third leading cause of death among adolescents (Kozier & Erb, 2007). Suicide can be attempted suicide or completed suicide. Attempted suicide is when an individual plans or thinks about ending one’s life that stems from depression (Smeltzer, 2010); whereas completed suicide is defined as successful suicide. Suicidal behavior is a multi-causal behavior with several risk factors and this includes a negative life event such as divorce (Rihmer, 2007).

Many people who are suicidal have a negative view of life- they commit suicide because they feel that they are not in control of their problems which then leads to taking negative and aggressive actions towards themselves (Goldman, 1996). Immediate response to situations that may cause an individual to come up with the idea of suicide is essential in preventing the person to commit suicide. Suicide has been a concern in most countries because of the increasing suicidal rates most especially in children. As stated by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, most suicides are preventable which means that there is something we can do to stop the person from ending his or her life. To the suicidal children, what come to their mind is that they think that killing themselves is the only way out and it is the only way to have an escape from the responsibilities and burdens that they might carry in the long run and from the people and things which are beyond their control. But the reality is that they are not really into putting their lives to an end. These children need not just professional help but people who can help them cope with the stressful event that they are going through and someone who can empower them to continue
