Damp, cold, and as dark as an abyss. The catacombs, an underground tunnel system, is a place featured in Edgar Allen Poe's short story The Cask of Amontillado. In The Cask of Amontillado, Poe develops the theme of trust through the characters Montressor and Fortunato. Montressor is a character and the narrator of the story. He tells a story of his revenge on Fortunato fifty years in the past.
Some people don’t realize that and try to live up to the unrealistic standards that we have created in our heads of what is really pretty. In that same article it describes beauty standards as features that are considered “pretty” in today's society. “They determine what is “beautiful”, from body shape, to facial proportions, to height and weight.” (Povey) This shows that the issue of beauty standards is a problem we face today because we can’t change the way we look.
What is the definition of beauty? Webster’s dictionary says “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses”, but to some people true beauty comes in fire. Such is it with the society seen in Fahrenheit 451. As Shown during the course of the novel the differences of character, acts, and opinions between Montag and Captain Beatty burn brighter that the kerosene drenched houses at night.
Customer Experiences The customer experiences at Ulta Beauty are a part of what keeps its customers coming back and, in a lot of cases, part of its Ultamate Rewards Program. These customer experiences can be seen in the comments and replies on Ulta Beauty’s social media accounts, but also in personal posts from customers, as well as in YouTube videos. Ulta Beauty recognizes this and has begun to reach out to some of the makeup and beauty “gurus” on YouTube and social media (see Figure 5). YouTube in particular has become a large platform for vloggers (video bloggers) to create content in the realm of hair and beauty.
I love that the reference of ideal beauty was mentioned. I think everyone in the world has their own ideal beauty. Whether that is in the present day, the past or I’m sure even the future. Specifically, back when this figure was carried in the pocket of a person for that specific time and a woman who was fat or had a big belly was thought to be a great thing since food was so scarce and it also was associated with fertility. That was their own type of ideal
Beauty can be defined in different ways: Beauty describes how anything in perspective like a face, an object, an action is adorable or pleasant. Beauty also refers to the person’s character, personality, or intellect. This topic of beauty affects all because in today’s culture, society judges appearances independently and seems to completely ignore what is portrayed inside of the person. In the essay, “A Woman’s Beauty: Put Down or Power Source?” Susan Sontag explains that for women, beauty is an occupation that they have to keep to maintain their financial situation.
Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Brutality is savage physical violence; great cruelty. The human race can be beautiful a brutal since it balances the complex character which humans are, we see this in The Book Thief with the characters and how war makes them react. Compassion is beautiful since the caring nature which human can bring comfort for those who are sad and conflicted.
When one first meet her, one has to admit, first thing they notice is her looks. Right? “wow she have it all” or maybe the opposite. Beauty for women may be easier for them, like getting out of an officer giving them a ticket or walking into a restaurant without a reservation. Beautiful women could get more smiles, more handsome men, and better treatment sometimes.
Later on the beauty ideal gets more influenced by the political behavior in a country. In the renaissance people started to revolt against the religious government and did not pay any attention to their bodies anymore. And a lot later in the 1930s and 1940s politicians as Hitler choose a beauty ideal. In addition to that, it is a fact that economics always play a large role in finding a beauty ideal. Everyone always wants to show off their abilities and their wealth by looking like the beauty ideal.
In 1.6 of Enneads, On Beauty, by Plotinus discusses the common questions surrounding beauty. Such as, what is it? Why are we, as humans drawn to it? Why are some things thought to be beautiful while some are not? And, how do we know when we see beauty, or something ugly?
Humans encompass great achievements and inspire change to the status quo at an alarming rate, however we drop the ball on a multitude of areas when it comes to social equality. One of those areas being The Beauty Myth that confine women to a man’s institution in a patriarchal society, which creates a variety of social problems. Today I would like to compare the ideals of the Beauty Myth and compare them to Delaney’s writing in the chapter titled Food for Thought, and specifically focus in on the section, Of Meat and Men, showing the similarities between the food we eat and our gender. First, in Naomi Wolf’s, The Beauty Myth, I was introduced to a perspective that I never actually had before reading this piece.
However, what one may see as beautiful may not be so through another’s gaze, which leads me onto my next point about beauty and desire. Beauty & Desire Firstly, if something is considered good, it does not mean that it is beautiful or that there is a desire for it. As Umberto Eco states, we can enjoy something for what it is and not desire it. Therefore, beauty and the good are subjective, clarifying that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, a term coined by Margaret Wolfe Hungerford in her text Molly Bawn from 1878.
If I were to praise this concept of beauty, this would be like saying that everybody should have surgeries and as such to make themselves beautiful. This is what people would understand from my opinions about the concept of beauty. Everybody has their own definition of beauty. It is a concept that varies with place to place or even time to time.
Art has been around and a part of humans lives since the beginning of time. The first forms of recognized art were paintings on the side of a cave wall; art has slowly matured and become more sophisticated as time has passed. Works of art come in many forms and can take hours or simply a few minutes. Also, anybody can consider anything art. From some people’s perspective a dot on a piece of paper is the most magnificent artwork in the world.
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
