What is the definition of beauty? Webster’s dictionary says “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses”, but to some people true beauty comes in fire. Such is it with the society seen in Fahrenheit 451. As Shown during the course of the novel the differences of character, acts, and opinions between Montag and Captain Beatty burn brighter that the kerosene drenched houses at night. During the novel the reader comes to the conclusion that Montag by no means portrays the “perfect hero” with his sometimes irrational behavior such as killing Beatty, and the simple fact that he blown whichever way like a flame in the wind. It’s also brought to the attention of the reader that Montag on some occasions doesn't even comprehend what he does, it’s as if his hands have minds of their own and move of their own free will. Thus showing the reader that if and when Montag has been forced into a high stress situation his psyche will come crashing down like castle walls and he will make an irrational decision regarding his current circumstances. Another occasion he cooks up a half-baked plan to overthrow the firemen by planting books in their house. To the reader this should become conclusive that Montag doesn't think things through very far which ultimately causes most of his problem as he doesn't tend to think about the consequences. It’s brought to the attention of the reader that Beatty takes the role as a control freak as seen when he tries to manipulate Montag when telling of the bleak history of the firemen. It also seems to the reader that he tries to hide his true feeling from people almost as if he fears what will happen if they become realized by other
