Have you ever considered the word family? Such a simple word, yet those six letters have more meaning in them than can ever be described. The dictionary defines family as a group of people that are blood related to one another. However, I define family as any individual you’re willing to love and cherish. There are factors in family that not all definitions include. For example, foster families, single-parent homes and parental figures around the community are not usually thought of when defining a family. Although people from different cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and social class have their own interpretations, we all have one element in common. Who we consider family is our way of showing them that they’re important to us and how much we love them.
Family is the very foundation that keeps us grounded as we grow up. Almost every intention in our lives involves family. In our respective religions, we are a “family” of believers. It doesn’t matter whether you’re Catholic, Christian, Muslim or Buddha; every …show more content…

The truth is, anyone who knows you as well as you know yourself or better is worth being a part of your family. The expression “blood is thicker than water” is true, but blood may not always be the right choice. My family consists of not only my mom, dad, brothers, and sister; but also, my best friends and my girlfriend. For instance, my mom knows me but not like girlfriend or close friends do. If you ask my girlfriend or close friends anything, they’ll answer you in a heartbeat. This doesn’t mean that my mom knows nothing about me but I definitely consider these vital people to be an enormous part of who I am. Family is all about compromise and communication.
