"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." By Winston S. Churchill. Those who took the path instead of believing they will inherit success, including people like Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and Oprah Winfrey. Two particular people who have followed the path to success are Althea Gibson and Barbara Jordan. Defying many obstacles as gender discrimination and racism, they are key figures in history today.
Former U.S. National Security Advisor, Colin Powell, once said, “A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work”. Michael Jordan put in a great amount of effort and practice every day to become a famous basketball player. Tim Cook always worked harder than everyone else to become Apple’s CEO. Howard Schultz put in extra time and work to become the Starbucks CEO. Hard work and determination always lead to success.
There is a lot of ever growing exploration about how to be successful; thousands of books and articles have been written in order to help our pursuit to success. Yet some stand out more than others such as the #1 national bestsellers, Outliers the story of success by Malcom Gladwell as well as Daniel Pink with his book Drive. These two texts are very similar and will most certainly show important examples of success. Malcolm Gladwell shares valuable lessons that are becoming more successful which can learn to help them succeed. He describes the lives and careers of successful people.
“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do” (Pele qtd. In Soccerlens). Countless people have done amazing things through perseverance. Sonny was an average boy in a mining town, but he started building rockets and learned a valuable life lesson.
Success is something you attract by the person you become. For things to improve, you have to improve. For things to get better, you have to get better. For things to change, you have to change. When you change, everything changes for you.”
AVID is a program not intended for everyone. This program exposes you to a variety of skills and mastery for adolescents desiring to attend college. Avid focuses around organization, teamwork, and for you to critically think. These skills are new to many and are provenly beneficial, however these skills do not favor those that have already had these skills and are show casing their full potential. Therefore, Avid is not for me since it interferes with my academic courses, mastery of avid skills and would not be beneficial for me because I have gained much of the skills and would rather interfer than assist.
The Journey Actor, Marlon Wayans once said, “Success is not a destination, but the road that you’re on. Being successful means that you’re are working hard and walking your walk every day. You can only live your dream by working hard towards it. That’s living your dream.” What Marlon Wayans is saying is that success happens when someone work for it, it doesn’t just happen right away.
The words of others can often move us. Words can mend broken bonds, show others how we feel, and most importantly, the words of others can inspire change in our hearts. Pelé once said, “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” This quote by Pelé has often been the mantra of my life.
What does it mean to be Successful? Success can mean many things to many different people. Being successful means to reach all of the goals that are set ahead. Every person is different, and that means that each person sees success differently. To some people being successful could be as simple as getting out of bed or getting to work on time.
My plan for academic success is to pass all my classes with a C average. Another plan for academic success that I have is to choose classes that best fit my understandings and personality. Also I would like to get my license as a senior and have a job. Another academic plan for success is to have friends, friends are important to success because if I have no friends I’ll have no one to talk to while I’m working on school work. As well as the fact that I’m horrible at all my english classes, it might be a good idea to get those improved.
Support: Eric Thomas, the author of the book ‘The Secret to Success’, once said about success that whatever paths taking us to success, at some point we all have to go through the boulevard of hard work. Example: If you want to achieve success, hard work and dedication are the second element after explicit plans. In addition, we had better take responsibility for our tasks. None can help us to fulfil our targets but ourselves, hence learning to bear responsibility is very essential.
How do you define Success!! My English teacher asked me “How do you define success”? Success means different things to different people. To me success is having good grades and a good amount of money, achieving your goals, and happiness.
What does success mean to me? It means accomplishing things in life and reaching your goals. Everyone has a different view of what success actually is. Success also means setting a goal and reaching it in a time frame you set for yourself. For example I believe finishing college and gaining a career in a field you love is being successful because it is a goal that can be achieved.
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be successful in life. I have always wanted to be the better version of my parents and achieve many things in life. During my freshman year in High school, I knew I was going to major in business. I come from a household of five, my father, mother, two younger sisters, and myself. I am the first in my family to go to college and with that being said, I have always felt the pressure to be the best role model and example for my younger sisters.
Different people have different opinions. Some people argue that opportunity is the most important factor to achieve success. Once somebody has an opportunity, then he or she will easily achieve success. Some other people believe that to achieve success depends on people themselves.
