What is a hero? Is it a muscular crime fighter helping a damsel in distress or maybe a daring thrill seeker in a costume? These examples are what most people think a hero is, when in reality, a hero can be anyone who is courageous and willing to help others. Hero’s can be anywhere and they can be anyone.
Superhero movies and comics are extremely popular in today’s society, and are where the stereotypical views of heroes come from. The ability to shoot spider webs from ones hands or being able to fly at supersonic speeds is not the qualifications to be a hero. The real definition of a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. According to that definition, a hero can be numerous amounts of people who are completely ordinary. There are many examples of heroes that are active in society today. Another large view of a hero would be a brave soul that contributes to society such as a soldier or fire fighter. These individuals pursue dangerous jobs that are extremely helpful and defined as heroic. But there is another class of people that classify as heroes that go unnoticed by society. The most common people can be heroes, such as a teacher, parent, or friend. A teacher spends his time educating students and helping them succeed in life. A parent raises a child with the best of their abilities and comforts them in time of need. A friend can make one happy and make their life more enjoyable. All of these ordinary people perform heroic duties without even realizing it. A hero is not as complicated as one may think, and at some point nearly everyone has been a hero.
