This form of execution was used since Roman Times and is still used present day. The change of its connotation in the five-hundred since it was first used is due to a change in acceptable ethics, rationale and reasoning within society.

The first type is self sacrifice, which is death due to compassionate and/or belief oriented motivation. The second type is self-irrationicide. This is death due to inexperience, ignorance, or lack of cognitive understanding of the situation.
