How did I choose what to draw when I was young? What about now? Art comes from the inspiration within the artist. It could be anything from the time I went to the fair with my family, to the time I got my license. Inspiration can come from anything that has occurred in the artist’s life. An artists’ inspiration for their art is not always a positive thing, sometimes the inspiration can be very dark and gruesome, which can be seen in the final product. If a person is in a poor mood their inspiration may come from a darker place, meaning the colors used will be darker toned most likely, such as using shades of brown, grey, and black in their artwork. If I decide to draw something, I don’t have to know what I want to draw, as long as I know what interests me. I can start off with a person wearing blank clothes, and end up having them wear a basketball jersey. Why basketball? It is a part of who I am. Inspiration comes from the things that we as humans take in. Barry stated that: “When I was little, I noticed that making lines on paper gave me a certain floating feeling. It made me feel like I was both there and not there,” (Barry, Two Questions). Barry writes about the feeling that was evoked from within when she began to draw in her youth. This feeling continued until she created art that was ‘inappropriate’ for her age, which is when she began to question her inspiration and ask herself if her art was quality or not. What a person sees, hears, and smells can lead to the artist creating some form of art based on what they took in. For example, it could be the sky being pink and purple like the sunset that I saw in Mexico. Maybe it’s the shirt that I bought while I was in Israel, it doesn’t have to be anything in specific, as long as it means something to you as a person. It is not necessary to have a large event happen to inspire an artist; it could be anything that resonates with the artist deep
