A hero is a someone who is admired for their great or brave acts, someone willing to sacrifice themselves for the benefit of others. In society, heroes are the ones that face danger instead of running from it. A hero is someone who disregards their own well-being and puts those in need as their first priority, they are the ones that plainly do what is right even if no one else does or can.
To me a hero is someone who will do what is necessary to help those who are in a time of need and to keep people safe. A hero is someone who immediately stops what they are doing, to put their life on the line to save someone in danger. In Merriam Webster it defines a hero as, “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.” To me, a hero needs no admiration or should acknowledge it at all. A hero should

In Why Heroes are Important by Scott LaBarge it mentions, “ A couple years ago the administrators of the Barron Prize for Young Heroes polled American teenagers and found only half could name a personal hero. Superman and Spiderman were named twice as often as Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or Lincoln. It is clear that our media make it all too easy for us to confuse celebrity with excellence; of the students who gave an answer, more than half named an athlete, a movie star, or a musician. One in ten named winners on American Idol as heroes.” This proves how our society mistreats the use of the word hero, although many athletes and actors donate charities, it’s very rare to find a celebrity today that can be defined as a hero. Heroes are people we aspire to be, today we should not strive for being what many call a “hero” like a rapper, but as someone who is a role model who stands up for what's wrong and needs changing such as Martin Luther King Jr. He was a hero because he was a light among others in that dark time and pulled the society together and lead them because he brought hope.
