Hero “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary (Geraid Way).” A person who walks beside you on the sidewalk or smiles at you when you pass by them could be the hero that saves you when danger is present. A hero is an ordinary person who has extraordinary traits of acting quickly in a difficult situation, being determined to help any citizen in need and always steps up to help even if it means possibly getting injured. Heroes are people who will respond without hesitation when danger is upon them. For example, a young man by the name of Wells was willing to ride up the elevator in a burning building in order to save a woman. Although he was able to save her quickly and without hesitation, he passed away in the process. Adding to that, a captain by the name of Vincent Ardolino helped to rescue hundreds of people from the burning twin towers by sailing them out of the city safely. He explained “I have to do something now. If i get hurt then that’s something I have to live with.” this quote shows how he was focused on helping others and didn’t hesitate to do so. An example of this would be in the autobiography by Frederick Douglass titled “The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” that says “But I remained firm, and according to my resolution, on the third day of September, 1838, I left my chains, and succeeded in reaching New York without the slightest interruption of any kind.” This quote explains how Frederick was able to escape because he was determined and he kept his mind focused on a single subject, escaping. Another example of determination is the story of Mulan and her fight to succeed. “Mulan has the strength and the nerve to stand up for her father and protect him.” This statement shows how Mulan had her mind set on succeeding and making her father
