As soon as you understand more about a person, you can be more empathetic and understanding of different cultures. I come from a Hispanic and German background so I have had the chance to enjoy multiple cultures already. Yet, experiencing and learning about new cultures is important to create better more understanding
The unknown instills human kind with one of two things, either fear or curiosity. Danny Gokey once said “replace fear of the unknown with curiosity”. Some people look toward the future, and to the unknown who curiosity and hope of what is to come. However, the more pessimistic seem to embody the words of H.P. Lovecraft, “The oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown”. The Rise of Nuclear Fear-How We Learned to Fear the Radiation written by David Ropeik, talks about the very real fear caused by radiation and nuclear power.
George, you stated, “Various forms of culture are all around us and sometimes it is difficult to understand why different cultures respond to each other the way they do,” this is very true. I think it is a matter of history repeating itself, or in other words, learned behavior from past cultures, as well as difference in the ways of communication, and customs. Personally, I love to study the different cultures of the world because as students of history we must have an understanding of a culture, before can write about it, or more importantly preserve it. This is why it is very important for archivists to seek out education about different cultures because the world is very diverse, and everyone has a history that needs to be preserved for future generations.
This is why we are influenced by our parents. We grew up with learning many different types of cultures and traditions. Furthermore all the cultures and traditions we grew up with makes us “different” so that is how we view the

One example of how culture influences the perspectives of others is in the novel excerpt, “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan. On Page 23, Jing Mei’s mom becomes entranced by a young Chinese pianist on The Ed Sullivan Show, and immediately signs up Jing Mei for weekly piano classes. When Jing Mei finds out about these classes, her perspective on
Fear of the Unknown In The Tent Peg, one’s fear for the unknown is displayed through the desire to colonize, dominate and conquer another. Van Herk demonstrates that an individual is intimidated and threatened by the unknown, hence, giving rise to one’s survival instincts. The fear of the unknown overwhelms people to such an extent that their actions, beliefs, and behaviour are hindered by it. What is it about the unknown that is fearful?
Americans have let cultural differences determine their perception on people before anyone gets to know one another . This problem has robbed citizens of the chance of developing great relationships with each other. Americans could learn so much from a different culture that could prove to be helpful to society. The best time for Americans to start learning and appreciating other cultures is in middle school or high school. During this time period, students will be able to understand why it is important to learn about other people's way of life.
Fear can scare some people straight but not all of them. Jonathan Edwards tried to scare some people into believing in God when he said “we are all sinners in the hands of an angry God.” (Edwards 41) In my own personal opinion kids like me can be scared straight.

Cultural Immersion The more we seem different, the more we are essentially the same. Cultural differences often make people think that there is something wrong with or dangerous about others. People often are afraid to experience things that are different because they fear what might happen to them. Some people view others from different cultures as less than or not desirable.
Without the knowledge of what culture is and does, we as a society would be lost. In the essay, “An Indian Father’s Plea” by Robert Lake, the author takes to explain to his audience that your culture can greatly impact your perspective of others. For example, when the teacher Wind-Wolf a slow learner, the father writes a letter explaining why wind-wolf is not, but in fact the opposite. The author said “If you ask him how many months there are in a year he will probably tell you 13. He will respond this way not because he does not know how to count, but because he was taught by our traditional people.”

There are many fears that have rooted themselves deep into the human psyche. Fears of darkness, heights, spiders, and an assortment of even the most ludicrous of things including clowns. However, there is one fear that permeates throughout all of humanity: the fear of the unknown. This is a catch-all term that describes humanity’s disdain of unpredictability and longing for security. In Silas Marner, George Eliot utilizes the stories of Silas Marner’s isolation from Raveloe and Godfrey’s affair with Molly Farren to convey that the fear is futile yet damaging, that fear is irrational, and that everyone needs to be willing to take a risk to overgome this.
