Deforestation is the destruction of native forests around the world. It is happening on most continents but is very bad in the Amazon region of South America. Farmers and foresters are cutting down the trees because most furniture is made from wood and that wood comes from these trees. The weakness of imposing bans and restriction is that the government must have a very large and powerful organisation to enforce the restrictions. This is very difficult to achieve because it is very expensive and takes a long time to achieve.
Use a mixture of punishments and incentives. The government can ban farmers in the worst part of deforestation from getting low interest loans for their business and this will slow down their ability to clear the forest and start new farms. The government can also made it compulsory for land owners to report their properties boundaries to environmental regulators. This will enable to government to understand who is responsible for forest clearing and understand the overall size of the problem.
The strengths of this is approach is that it is relatively easy to manage and it does not cost a lot of money.
The weakness of this is that the farmers can’t earn as much money because they can’t get cheap
