Introduction
Homelessness is an epidemic that needs to be addressed in a way that is going to improve our economy. Housing first is a step towards assisting people experiencing homelessness.The approach is providing someone who needs a place to live first, before continuing to the next steps.What influenced my interest, in this case, is it is important to provide someone experiencing homelessness with a home first before trying to make them get a job because this will lead to a higher success rate in the people who try to find a job first.Toxic environments are harmful to an individual's health, by extracting them from the negative environment leads to a fresh start. This may make people feel more encouraged to change the direction of their life. If someone has a good base for an individual, there will be a better chance at success.If this did not exist I believe that the homelessness in Hamilton would just get worse. As stated in lecture it may not be what a person necessarily wants or needs at the time. Dehumanization is another concept from the course that connects to this case, as some may feel as though they are losing their free will and individuality because of systems put in place.Some of the questions that came to mind are What are the next steps going to be for housing first? What direction do they want to go with this? Do they have a cap on how many people they can help monthly or yearly? What is going to be the impact of this organization?
