Summary of your findings
The Chicago community, similar to many, faces an ongoing complication with the homeless population. On the city’s end, Chicago struggles to provide shelter for the estimated 82,000 street occupants. While handouts and donations are an obsoletely helpful gesture, the issue stands prominent due to the lack of plotting for additional access for housing due to the heavily populated area. In attempts to end the homeless predicament, the state of Chicago has developed numerous programs and government funded plans to provide aid and help find shelter. In the past few years, government funded programs have been put in place. The majority of these programs provide access to guidance for restabilizing individuals. The programs, however, fail to provide a physical solution to providing more lodging. In 2017, the government set up an Interim housing program. The FSS funds the program. The Interim program was designed to resettle homeless families by providing them with 120 days of housing. Although the program provides temporary relief for families, many are still troubled with homelessness after the fact. The program also only benefits families, which make up nearly half of the homeless population. There are currently 37 interim housing programs in Chicago. Covenant House, a nonprofit organization that combats children homelessness set out to create an all children's homeless shelter in Chicago in 2016. The plan was backed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel (Kuang, Chicago Tribune). This plan is designed to get homeless youth off the streets and into shelter. The Covenant House is improving the current issue by providing shelter, but they are not acknowledging the other percentage of the adult homeless population. To address the population as a whole, more nonprofits and organizations must reach out and sketch plans to provide further shelter and housing to the homeless
