Ms. Pettigrew seemed to fit the role well, except for I thought she would be dressed a little more properly. She also seems a lot older in the film. I get the mother/daughter relationship between Delysia and Ms. Pettigrew more in the movie than I did in the book. I thought Nick physically fit the character in the book, but I imagined him more violent in the book. Michael was good representation other than the fact that I thought he was more violent than Nick was. I also thought that Michael had more money. In the book it said he had plenty of money, but in the movie he made it sound like he was living off of dimes. Phil was a lot younger than I thought he seemed to be in the book. I pictured him as a middle aged producer, not the son of a producer.

Delysia knows that Nick is not good for her and that she needs to end things with him. But, she sees him as a hypnotizing snake, and has a hard time seeing past his charm and money. It seems as though all Nick has to do is kiss her and Delysia will fall back into his trap. I think there is a great deal of platonic love between Delysia and Ms. Pettigrew, as their relationship progresses throughout the story you can see that Guinevere goes from being a quick thinking stranger, to a true friend of Delysia. For a brief moment you can see the love that Joe has for Guinevere. He compliments her, and makes her feel welcome at the party. He is able to look past her physical appearance and see her true personality.
There were a few things left out from the book. We did not see the scene when nick brought in the flowers for Delysia. Nick’s violence and rudeness wasn’t expressed as much as I thought it would be. I also think the friendship between Edythe and Guinevere is almost completely absent. Although Edythe is kind enough to give Guinevere some confidence with a new wardrobe, her soul purpose is to use her to get back with
