“The Epic Journey of Cabeza de Vaca: A land So Strange” written by Andres Resendez takes place in the sixteenth century with Spanish conquistadors searching for treasures in northern Mexico, and the state of Florida that only a handful have traveled into, leaving this unknown territory to be speculated about. Spanish conquistadors involved in the journey to explore Florida consisted of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, Andrés Dorantes, Alonso del Castillo, and Estebanico Dorantes. The goal of journeying to Florida was mainly to bring treasure that was said to have been found in the Native Americans lands in Rio de las Palmas, México. However, due to the lack of pilots experienced with the Rio de las Palmas area the expedition was the result of the

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Sonia Nazario re-tells an amazing story based upon the journey of Enrique, a confused and troubled boy in search of his mother, who fled to the U.S when he was five years of age. Nazario uses credibility and emotional appeal to inform the fleeding parents, to think twice upon the vicious and deadly risks of immigrating to the United States.

The thesis of Ashley Herzog’s College Classes for Conservatives to Avoid is that many university of a myriad of worthless classes for their students to take and that they should be avoided if possible. Her thesis is covered in both the first and second paragraphs. Along with the primary purpose of in informing people, particularly conservative college students, about pointless class Herzog has a secondary purpose entertainment. She uses satire to poke fun at the classes that she considers to be worthless. Herzog assumes her audience holds the same conservative view as the only time she actually makes a direct reference to her beliefs is in the title.
Enrique’s Journey talks about the struggles of a teenaged boy named Enrique and his family in Honduras. The boy takes a dangerous journey to America in order to see his mother again. She left to find work in the United States when he was just five. She knew her children would not be able to attend school past the third grade. She does not want them to grow up as she did, in poverty.
In the novel, “Enrique’s Journey,” by Sonia Nazario, Enrique’s journey will be worth it because, throughout the whole journey, Enrique knows that seeing his mother is the best thing he will ever receive. In the novel, “Enrique’s Journey,” when Maria Isabel begged Enrique to stay with her, the author expresses how much Enrique needs his mother. The author describes, “Only his mother can help him. She is his salvation.” (Pg.42)

Hernando De Soto Hernando De Soto started like many others as a young boy with big dreams, but little did he know he would become the most well known conquistador of his time. De Soto received a great amount of riches from his exploration and was the leader of many expeditions. Hernando De Soto, an aspiring conquistador, founded and ruled new lands, which some believed was unthinkable, until his trail ended with his death at the Mississippi River. Hernando De Soto was born in 1496 at Jerez de Los Caballeros, Bajadoz province (Hernando De Soto).
Throughout high school, many books are assigned to be read during the summer with the intent of opening students’ minds to learn. Students who read the books often find them enjoyable, however, there are some books that don’t acquire the same positive impact. Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario, unfortunately, happens to be one of those books. The writer attempts to shine a positive light on immigrants and their struggle to get into the United States for a successful life, but ultimately contradicts her message by the end of the novel when Enrique ultimately throws his life away once arriving. Enrique’s Journey should not be considered as required reading material because the situation portrayed only happens to a small percentage of immigrants

He was known for being a serial killer for murdering about one hundred ten to three hundred young girls, and a rapist for raping about three hundred young girls in South America. He was also in the Guinness World Records for being the "most prolific serial killer". His mother, Benilda López De Casteneda, was a prostitute at about the age of twelve and his father, Midardo Reyes, was a member of the Colombian Conservative Party (something dealing with politics) where they lived in poverty and political violence. Lopez was the seventh child out of thirteen children.

Their undertaking of the opposite gender results in a brilliant inversion of typical gender roles, where William Blake applies sexual liberation to a woman and Mary Shelley applies motherhood to a man. In the story the alchemist it is discovered that there are many different things in life to look forward to. There is also something in the story that is a moral or your life´s destiny called your personal legend. Your personal legend is one of those things in life that some people look up to in the future. Santiago travels the world to pursue his personal legend. Santiago strived to find his personal legend with the help of people he met on the way to find treasure that he is destined to find , just to realize the treasure was where he had fallen asleep in the beginning of the book.
People learn little from success, but much from failure. In a story by William Steig a little mouse named Doctor De Soto shows the meaning of success and hard work. Doctor De Soto and his wife dodge a not so sly fox. Doctor De Soto and his wife plan ahead to trick a not so sly fox as they knew that the fox would back stab them and try to eat them as a delicious snack , but as the fox thinks he's about to have a delicious snack Doctor De Soto and his wife had a surprise for the fox, they glue the sly ungrateful fox's mouth shut. In this story you would look though and find many Habits of Mind traits, they're 16 different traits in the Habits of Mind including Striving for Accuracy, Thinking Flexibly, and Thinking Interdependently which will be used and explained in the next few paragraphs.
