Depression is the term used to describe when someone feels sad and does not feel happy about themselves for many different reasons. They might think that they are a failure and that they are here on earth for no reason, which can also be called suicidal thoughts. People may think that about themselves because they are onto the next big part of life and are scared whether it be, college, just graduating high school and getting ready for the future, what their future goals are in life, where they see themselves working or living or who they see themselves marrying can be obnoxiously overwhelming. Of the study, 248 were female and 104 were male and two did not report their sex. They were given a questionnaire that had past suicidal behavior, suicidal ideation, suicidal threats, and likelihood of future attempts questions which was on a scale of 0 to 16 (Bauen, 2014). They took the average scores of each question after everyone was done taking the survey and then determined if the average was high or if the average was low putting together a data analysis to show the final results. The final results of the study was shown that 21.6 percent of students said they had thoughts of suicide within the past two weeks. 30.2 percent of those students who took the questionnaire had limited lifetime suicidal thoughts whereas 23.2 percent had a suicidal idea in the past year! Lastly, 0.7 percent of the college students that took the survey reported to have a suicide attempt at some point in their lifetime (Bauen, 2014). The students that said they had a suicide attempt at some point in their life, 57.9 percent, said that they have attempted suicide more than once in their lifetime (Bauen, 2014). By the study given to the college students that showed if you give a questionnaire to college students, there are a significant amount of students who within a short span of 2 weeks prior had depression for some reason so bad that they had suicidal thoughts, making it obvious to state that depression is definitely a factor on that college
