In the movie Regarding Henry, Henry starts out as a very successful lawyer. He is very strict and mature about his business. You can tell that in his life his business comes first before anything else including his family. Henry’s character starts to change dramatically when he is shot by a man robbing a market. This scene introduces Henry’s id back into his pro superego life. After Henry is shot, he goes to a rehabilitation center to pick upon how to talk, read, and walk again. There are two types of id’s in this movie, the selfish side and the childish side. A couple of main selfish id scenes occur when Henry is refusing to leave the rehab center with his family. At first he is selfish and wants to stay with Bradley, but then his daughter comes in and reminds him of something at his house so he decides to go. Another selfish scene is when he is getting in the bed to sleep with his wife and he doesn't like the amount of pillows on the bed so he throws them all off. Throughout this …show more content…

Henry’s superego at the beginning of the movie was one in which he showed a more moral superego. For example: talking to his daughter in bed and going against the elderly man in court. Henry’s superego was a man that would do anything to get what he wanted and not show any emotion while doing it. He was somewhat of a business robot. Towards the end of the movie Henry gained a little bit of his superego back, but didn't go full superego. When he was deciding on whether to go back home to his wife was a big step for Henry’s personality. His selfish id could have made him leave forever, but his superego got him to apologize and accept his wife. Another good scene was when he went to get his daughter out of school because he realized he needed to spend more time with her in his life. By the end of the story Henry balanced his id and superego out very well to be a better
