It teaches that regardless of facing great challenges, a military leader must demonstrate resilience and insistence. A leader must be flexible in his judgment, beliefs, tactics, and actions. By following Wheeler’s example, a leader must do the utmost to accomplish maximum results with available resources. In addition, discipline is one of the most important characteristic of an Army at all times. Leaders have the obligation to command their troops under any situation and under no circumstance should never allow the lack of discipline.
That means a leader is fit, confident, and resilient. The last attribute is intellect. That means a leader the expertise and mental agility to lead his Soldier. Audie Murphy represented all of this before it found its way into Army doctrine.
There are five competencies within the leads category. They are: leads others, build trust, extends influence beyond the chain of command, leads by example, and communicates (DA, 2012). GEN McChrystal possesses these competencies. As the top commander of forces in Afghanistan, his viewpoint on how to fight counter-insurgency fight has become accepted Army doctrine. GEN McChrystal also embraced communication, modeling his command centers after Michael Bloomberg’s “bullpen” layout (McChrystal, 2015).
Many people have wished at some point there weren’t any rules, or have wondered about the consequences when there aren’t any rules. Rules wouldn’t have been devised if it weren’t for the safety of people. The lack of structure in a society could only destroy it. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding describes how the kids started with a strong desire for a structural society but fell apart as conflicts started to generate. The conch showed a strong sign of civilization; it brought the people together and as a group.
Communicate effectively with my subordinates, never leave my soldiers uninformed, stand to protect my soldiers in any cost, and always place their needs above my own
Among these five characteristics; military expertise, honorable service, trust, esprit de corps, and stewardship of the profession, I believe that military expertise and stewardship of the profession are the two characteristics that make a leader excel in the presence of their peers. ADRP 1 defines military expertise as, “Military expertise is the design, generation, support, and ethical application of land power, primarily in unified land operations, and all supporting capabilities essential to accomplish the mission in defense of the American people”. In order to gain trust from your subordinates for them to follow your guidance, a leader must have military expertise. Without being an expert in your field, subordinates will not trust your guidance provided unto them. ADRP 1 defines Stewardship of the Profession as, “Stewardship is the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its five essential characteristics now and into the future”.
Courage, to have the mental, moral, and physical strength to carry my subordinates. Commitment, having the determination and dedication to excellence that leads me to a more skillful performance. I have been a commander for the freshmen and the unarmed drill team. I always made sure to set the example for them. I lead from the front and by lying, cheating, or stealing is not something I do
Task 2 2.1 Explain the skills and attributes needed for leadership. A lecturer has to possess several skills and attributes of leadership, in order to lead effectively and being respected by the students. A lecturer needs excellent communication and presentation skills for lecturing and communicate with the students (Manchester, n.d.). The skills of leadership are needed for a lecturer, as lecturer has to explain and present the topics clearly to the students, in order to ensure that students are understand about the topics and gain the knowledge.
LEADERSHIP QUALITIES 26. The dictionary meaning of Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization, or the ability to do this. According to Dwight D. Eisenhower “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. To become an effective Military Leader, one need to have some significant leadership qualities”.
When there is respect for the Noncommissioned officers and vise versa one is able to focus on the mission at hand rather than discipline or corrective action. the Noncommissioned officers have earned the respect with the years they put in and what they have sacrificed and proving that they can lead soldiers to the right path and help their soldiers become successful in the military and bettering their future in helping them become that great Noncommissioned officer or whatever they strive to be. When there is respect for the Noncommissioned officers and vise versa one is able to focus on the mission at hand rather than discipline or corrective action. The Noncommissioned officers job is to make sure that their soldier lives up to all aspects of the Soldier's Creed and make sure that will do the right thing even when no one's looking are telling them to. In the NCO Creed it says “I know my soldiers and will always place their needs above my own”.
These are just a few of the army values and how they play an important part in an effective leader and follower’s day to day
Proper respect will bring pride in Soldiers which in turn strengthen the organization. 7). Micro Management In my Army life so far I had lots of good and bad leaders. I have always respected leaders who let us have control over our small section and held us accountable for it.
He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent" (McCarther 2015). A leader should lead from the front and also have the ability to think quickly on their feet and take care of their Soldiers. Have faith and trust that the leadership is doing their best to keep everything in
Military leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Another significant aspect of emphasized by the army is charisma. Therefore, army strategy to have a great leader is to choose people with high charisma since follower are always drawn to leaders with charisma. By having a high charisma they can command the follower easily. The basic task of a leader are: achieve the mission with zero fatality.
