The author believes that Californians possess a “love affair” with the history of their state, because of the extensive amount of effort dedicated to preserve historical sites, gather records, and maintain stories about California’s proud past and its honorable men. The author states that Californian historians have been writing about its history for close to 150 years and have been preserving historical sites and buildings for over 125 years. This leads to many generations hearing the romantic stories about sites and people. Historians have been successful to portray California as having an amorous history and showing history as if it was a movie plot.
