Empowering others by creating an inclusive and positive atmosphere are qualities that I worked to incorporate in my leadership style. I have already taken initiative to reach my goal of higher education and have proven myself as a serious student by maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Tacoma Community College while in high school. I will complete my Associates of Arts Degree from Tacoma Community College and graduate from Gig Harbor High School this year. I plan to pursue a degree in Food Science at Washington State University in the fall of 2016. During my senior year pursued an opportunity to have an inside look into the food industry. I visited Lucks Food Decorating Company and had the privilege of meeting their food science team. I was invited back to participate in a workshop focused on the fundamentals of food coloring. We experimented with natural coloring agents as well as artificial, and learn about color psychology. This hands on activity gave me insight into the process of producing consistent standards. I have been offered a summer position at Lucks Food and look forward to the opportunity. Having clear goals coupled with a strong work ethic make me a worthy candidate for scholarship consideration. With the generous scholarships offered by the IFT, I will be one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a food scientist. Majoring in Food Science, I aspire to become an expert in my field and obtain relevant skills applicable to the industry. Acquiring broader knowledge and comprehension
