As I throw the ball into the gushing waves Halem runs after it barking and wagging his tail. When he returns to the safe shore he places the ball down and shakes the salty water all over me. Whilst laughing I grab the ball and go and sit on the sand dunes watching him run circles around other dogs and watching the sun reflect a pastel orange upon the ocean remembering the first time I saw the sunset at Cabarita beach, nearly two years ago.
After I travelled for 4 hours I decided to make a pit stop at the beach to stretch my legs before I went to find my hotel for the night. I handed the rest of my sandwich to him as I watched him gobble it up I scanned him seeing if there was any collar on him, unfortunately there was not. When he finished the sandwich he licked me and continued on his journey but instead of going towards the waves this time he went towards the road.
As I turned around to get one last look at him he was crossing the road when all of a sudden a small car hit him and tossed him to the side with a massive yelp. When I ran over to see it he was still alive the car drove off without looking back. I scooped him up into my arms and struggled to get him to my Ute, searching up the local vet I could see that it was just down the road. “Excuse me Ms, the dog appears to have no owner, where about did you find him?” asked the vet nurse.
“He was wondering along the beach when he ran out onto the road and got hit. What will happen to him?” I replied
“You are able to take him home with you or he will have to go to the pound.” Said the vet nurse.
“I cannot let this poor fella go to the pound,” I thought
