Descriptive Essay: Belk Residence Hall

The purpose of all dorms is to make you feel at home and for you to be able to call it your own “home.” The first couple of weeks I couldn’t call it my home, almost a month later I am happy to call it home. All the walls being plain white, having all this furniture in one tiny room, having communal bathrooms (sharing with all the girls on the hall), and the outside look of the building are all just a few reasons why it did not feel homey to me at first but I did like the location of the building. The overall effect that Belk is trying to give off is a homey feeling to all of the students who live in this residence hall, but at first it failed at this for me. The first thing you see of Belk is the outside of the building, it looks like an old school building or an old hotel building because of all the windows it has and how old it looks. Compared to the other residence halls; Cypress, Pine and Oak, this building looks very old as well as North Residence Hall. The building has very little plants around it, no welcoming sign other than the sign that says “Belk Residence Hall” and it has no color to it really. It’s the place where you’re going to make memories, meet new friends, and live in for a year. Belk is one of the most convenient halls compared to Cypress and Village apartments which are one the other side of campus. At first you may not be comfortable with it but once you get used to it and are there for a month or so you’ll end up liking it and will be happy you got this residence hall. I may not of been fond of Belk when I first arrived here but I’ve learned to like it over this past month that I have been
