Many of the names were chosen from the bible on the day of a child’s birth. Letting God choose a child’s name shows a level of faith in the parents which often results in awkward and weird names. The use of the name, Magdalena called Lena, is similar to the phrasing in the bible in names like Simon called Peter. Toni Morrison put a lot of emphasis into the characters' names in Song of Solomon. The main characters' last name of Dead has a lot of emphasis.

The name itself gives an idea of what the character is like or the reason for being written about. It’s more than just that the name reflects the importance of the character. These names correspond to how Cleo feels that women are treated in society. At first, she is sad because she thinks that women are meant only to exist for men, and Dolores and Soledad reflect this belief. However, towards the end of the story, there is another character that is named Felice which translate to “happiness” in English.

Ever since I was young, I have always heard someone talking about Marquette. Part of this may be due to the fact that three of my neighbors have gone to Marquette and have absolutely loved it. Adding on to that, I have met even more people that have gone to Marquette that have really liked it and are usually successful in life. I met even more people at the Marquette open house that were from all over the United States and said they went to Marquette and they hope their child will attend Marquette as well. This made me realize that Marquette is truly local, since I know several people that have gone to Marquette that live by me and at the same time it is global, since I have met people around the United States, as well as other countries that
Roger Dooley starts by talking about the importance of names. He quotes Dale Carnegie, who says,” Remember that a man’s name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in any language” (Dooley 39). This quote in other words reminds us that hearing your own name can be a
Port Renfrew, Vancouver Island, where the fog rises before your eyes. In the summer between the tenth and eleventh grade, my family decided that Vancouver Island would be lovely to visit. I agreed; I would have a chance to photograph what I never have before. Although it was summer, the temperature was significantly lower, with the sun straying close to the clouds. I remember the open sea, in all its unrestrained glory, the way it nipped at me as I strayed near the edge of the cliffs, I did that often.
Pennhurst Asylum By: sarah hill The air stands still as you walk around the decaying buildings. The feeling of something watching you is heavily present in your thoughts. An oder, a damp, musty, moldy odor, fills your nose as you try to peek inside and see what 's in these decrepit buildings.
As I throw the ball into the gushing waves Halem runs after it barking and wagging his tail. When he returns to the safe shore he places the ball down and shakes the salty water all over me. Whilst laughing I grab the ball and go and sit on the sand dunes watching him run circles around other dogs and watching the sun reflect a pastel orange upon the ocean remembering the first time I saw the sunset at Cabarita beach, nearly two years ago. After I travelled for 4 hours I decided to make a pit stop at the beach to stretch my legs before I went to find my hotel for the night.
Each and everyone has our own idea of how success looks like. But for me, success is something that you’ve worked so hard to get to that you now have pride to have or be. Names/Nombres written by Julia Alvarez is a short story regarding a little girl, Hooleetah, moving with her family from the Dominican Republic to New York City in the 1960s. It is extremely clear within the beginning of the story that the girl absolutely despises it when people pronounce her, or her family's’ names wrong, this is proven when she corrects the customs officer under her breath when he mispronounces her family’s last name. “At Immigration, the officer asked my father, Mister Elbures, if he had anything to declare... but I said our name to myself, opening my mouth wide for the organ blast of trilling my tongue for the drumroll of the r, All-vab- rrr-es (Alvarez 1). As the story continues each member of her family is assigned with many different American names, as people found it hard to pronounce their actual names.
