Elia Kazan’s 1954 film On the Waterfront is a crime drama starring legendary actor Marlon Brando as Terry Malloy, a former prize-fighting boxer turned dock worker employed by Johnny Friendly (portrayed by Lee J. Cobb), the corrupt leader of the local dock workers union. After witnessing the murder of a fellow co-worker and friend, Joey Doyle, Terry is faced with the difficult decision of speaking against Friendly, a long-time family friend and the boss of his older brother Charley, in court in relation to the mob-esque activities of the dockers union, or keeping his mouth shut in an effort to preserve the relationship, and also his own safety. Edie Doyle (portrayed by Eva Saint Marie), the sister of the deceased Joey Doyle, and the local Catholic priest Father Barry (a role performed by actor Karl Malden) make it their mission, along with the Waterfront Crime Commission, to encourage those to speak the truth against Friendly. Eventually, the Commission, Father Barry, and Edie zero in on Terry given that he was the only witness to the murder, and collectively act as the moral compass that tries to sway Terry into doing what is considered to be the just thing to do, even if that means going against family.

On December 8, 1941 the United States entered war with Japan. This caused all people of japanese ancestry to be interned. Some people thought that this was unfair, but most of the people wanted Japanese to be interned. The common good was the best for all Americans during World War II, because of the suspicion of saboteurs of Japanese ancestry, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and war hysteria that had possible leads to criminal activity.
The use of most Native American related names for sports teams does not seem to be an issue with the exception of the Washington Redskins. The term redskins has been said to have different meanings. Some believe it is to describe the skin color of the Native Americans, while others believe it describes the Native American after they have been skinned and their skin is covered in blood hence making them red. In either case the word redskin is meant to be a derogatory term. Another issue seems to be how offensive many of the mascots for these sports teams can be.
“... O say does that star spangled banner yet wave, o’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Nearly every American can recite the final lines of our National Anthem. However, few take the time to truly contemplate the meaning of these words. When I hear these phrases, I think of the principles on which our country was founded: the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But perhaps more important than these rights are the defenders of them: our veterans.
There are a lot of Cubs fans in the World, especially right now. I hope all these people someday get to experience the excitement of Wrigley field. This is something I have experienced many times. My first trip to Wrigley field was when I was 10 I will never forget that experience. When we arrived at the field I saw the entrance to Wrigley which I had seen so many times on tv.
The battle of Pearl Harbor was a brutal surprise attack on the United states Pacific fleet and it was the kickoff point for the US to join World War II. Its something we should never forget. Pearl Harbor was one of the most memorable events in the history of the United states. When Japan attacked the US Pacific fleet it was totally unexpected on this Sunday morning December 7, 194. Japan wanted to attack Pearl Harbor because it was afraid the US would be able to attack from the Pacific.
“Mary Tsukamoto once said ‘I knew it would leave a scar that would stay with me forever. At that moment my precious freedom was taken from me’” (Martin 54). The Betrayal. The attack on Pearl Harbor.

Atlantic City was once the powerhouse of the east coast raking in tourists, large sums of money, and monopolizing the gambling industry. Nick Paumgarten wrote “The Death and Life of Atlantic City”, which states “The casino closures in Atlantic City have contributed to the loss of nearly 10,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics” (102). Four out of the twelve casinos closed which contributed to 8,000 of those jobs. Three of the remaining casinos are currently facing bankruptcy which contributes to the other 2,000 people left jobless. The question Atlantic City is faced with a matter of needing more gambling or less?
