So far in the book Brian’s Winter by Gary Paulsen, Brian is stuck in the forest for the winter, and is adapting to the cold atmosphere that is the forests of Canada, and by this food become scarce for Brian and it becomes extremely difficult for him to find food, and then kill it as well, along with food being more scarce and the pond slowly beginning to freeze up. Brian also needs to build a new shelter for multiple reasons. One reason is because of how his food is situated along with the fire he is burning to cook it a bear one day approached the food and fire, and it was right next to Brian and he at one point attacked the bear in order for Brian to protect his food, but the bear attacks Brian, leaving bruises and scrapes throughout his body so he needs to restart his food placement,
Who was Dorothea Dix? Well, for starters, Dix was an author, teacher, and reformer. In the Civil War, she was a Wartime leader of Union’s Women Nurses, volunteering her services one week after war began. She was the first woman to serve in a high capacity, federally appointed role. She had poor health, which made her bed-bound many times in her life.

Daley excelled in the rough politics in the notoriously corrupt Chicago. Would he have been as successful in another city or state? Perhaps not, but Daley was the perfect match for Chicago. He was a man whose less than pure ethics was understood by Chicagoans. Perhaps he wouldn 't have been as understood and accepted in another environment.
Once upon a time a man named jack lived alone in his small city apartment in Chicago. Every day jack would go to work at his parent’s corner store mopping the floors cleaning the windows and re stalking the shelfs with food. But despite after all him and his family’s hard work they barely made it by every month. One day his mom told him to go sell the family car because they did not have enough for gas and to re stalk the shelfs at the store.
Erik Larson uses this simile and strong words that place a vivid image to further emphasize how the city continues to get dirtier as time goes by and more people move to Chicago. Larson wrote how as the city grew in population and in size the more dangerous and filthy the city became. The simile “like pus from a wound” paints a vivid image in the reader 's mind on how dirty the streets of Chicago are by using a simile that the readers would understand. Furthermore, Larson also uses strong words such as “oozed,” “muck,” and “swelled” to further paint an imagery of the contaminated streets and to show the continued growth of the filth in Chicago. This simile further helps Larson create a better image of how the city of Chicago has become contaminated.

Chicago and other major cities remain in the news, as they continue to struggle with high murder rates. In fact, the city of Chicago has witnessed a 50 percent increase in its murder rate in only a one year period, and this area is not alone. Thankfully, cities across America and noticing violent and property crime rates remain at historic lows. The new adminstration has noted the increase in murder rates, but needs to also consider that other crimes on are the decline, which is always a good thing.

The literary element irony is mostly used in the short story “What happened during the Ice Storm?” originally the boys wanted to hurt the pheasants like the author says, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other, each expecting the other to do something. To pounce on a pheasant, or to yell Bang!” This quote is important because it showed the boys original intent; which was to hurt or kill the pheasants.
