DESCRIPTIVE WRITING
There’s always this unique feeling, you know? It’s like the world is about to fall out from under you yet your feet feel more firm and stable than they ever have. That feeling fills your chest and you can’t help but smile like someone who’s insane, it’s exhilarating. But slowly, surely, you make one small step, one wrong move, and the ground comes hurtling at you with the force of a thousand angry gods. Here I was, standing on top of a cliff, about to jump in the water when I changed my mind. My foot slipped and I plummeted into the deep chasm of fear known as falling. I stood there, weighing the choices of living or having a good time and I hesitated ever coming to this place. I backed up and I walked down the side of the trail, to see exactly how deep the water was from the side. Everything checked out but there was still this knot in my stomach, it felt like someone with really big hands was using my intestines to practice rope work with boy scouts. I took a deep breath and walked back to the top of the bluff, trying to regain some of my once extensive courage. I walked to a root about two feet away from the edge, and I did a small run, about to jump off and fly in the air, lose myself in that feeling of freedom. Well, this was the plan. What happened next was something I had never thought of happening. I went to stop, to take a step back and instead, the air was rushing underneath me and I let out a violent scream. The ground on top of the cliff was rather loose and muddy; it had just rained a few nights ago. It didn’t have any intention of giving away until my feet touched it. It’s like I woke up the earth around me and it decided to spit me out, from 30 feet above the water. The feeling that coursed through my body was something I had never before experienced, and I was
