There are many reasons why people believe in God, which make people think that it is reasonable or not reasonable to do so. However, I believe that it is not reasonable to believe in God, for the reasons which will be outlined in the following paragraphs. In this essay, I will discuss why believing in God is reasonable and unreasonable. I will provide arguments for both sides, and then explain my opinion in the conclusion.
One argument for why it is reasonable is the design argument. This argument clearly explains that God is reasonable to believe in, but it can be argued against. This argument suggests that our universe was designed in a specific way. It could not have been created just by chance or by the Big Bang, it must have been created by God. Willian Paley argued that if you were walking on a grassland and you found a watch, you would think that someone has designed this watch to fulfil a purpose. A watch has a creator because of its complexity. This is not unlike the existence of the universe, God must have created this world because it is very complexly created. This means that God must have created the universe, and it is therefore reasonable. This argument is quite strong if you think about it. For example, trees take in carbon dioxide and give

This argument says that we can deduce the existence of God from the concept of God. Just by thinking of Him, he must exist, otherwise, we would have no conception of this being. This argument is much more convincing than the design argument but does have its flaws, which will be explained later. St Anselm says that God is ‘greater than which cannot be conceived.’ If we could think of something greater than God, then this greater thing would be God. But this doesn’t make sense, so if we can think of something greater than God, we aren’t thinking of God. It is greater to exist in reality than to exist only in the mind. Therefore, He must
