Plan of Action:
Our group S.H.A.D.E (Students Handling Adverse Diabetic Effects) plans to provide diabetic screenings for those who have not been tested, as well as provide techniques and tactics for those who do have diabetes, so they can avoid harmful outbreaks. We all realize that we cannot cure their diabetes, but we can provide the education and tips needed to help people cope through any of their personal diabetic situations. We plan to conduct surveys of students, parents, and citizens to learn more about their general knowledge of diabetes. We will also interview our school nurse to find students’ needs and how we can further educate them. We will also meet with an endocrinologist to extend our knowledge and receive suggestions that will benefit our group. We believe that we are able to provide some strategies, as well as educating those in need so that they can overcome any other complications that life brings their way. We will also have a variety of different speakers that will present what they know to citizens. We also plan to both host and attend events in Flagler County. National Diabetes Day in school will allow kids to wear blue, the national color of diabetes, to bring attention to the effects of this disorder. We plan to attend the Flagler County Home Show to raise awareness of the effects on people, provide screenings, and to further spread information. We will also attend the diabetic flag raisings in Flagler County throughout October and November.
