In the darkness of the night, Arthur slips into bed with a quiet breath of satisfaction leaving his mouth. With eyelids drooping heavily and hands stiff from the repeated strumming of his guitar, he pulls his earnings of the day out of his jean pocket and begins to count slowly and steadily. The clink of quarters and loonies falling echo within his small square room of his friend Oscar’s apartment. Through the paper-thin walls, Arthur listens to faint snoring, remembering that he needs to be up early for another day. He counts 43.75 in change plus two twenty-dollar bills from unexpecting businessmen passing through the streets of downtown Edmonton. Staring down at his profits for a split second of comfort, he puts it aside and tucks himself
