Entry One On page twelve of Holes, Stanley gets to the camp and meets Mr. Sir for the first time. Because the camp was so far away, both the bus driver and guard felt understandably irritated. In fact, the guard stated, “Nine hours here, and now nine hours back… What a day.” Stanley “felt a little sorry for the guard and the bus driver” for putting them through the trouble.
1. Title- The title refers to the misinterpretation by Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of the story, of the poem “Comin’ Thro’ the Rye”. Holden Caulfield mistakes the line “if a body meet a body” to his understanding as “if a body catch a body”. Caulfield pictures children playing in a rye field near a cliff and his dream job would be catching them before they fall off.

Dialectical Journal Entry #1 A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini Passage: “But I’m a different breed of man, Mariam. Where I come from, one wrong look, one improper word, and blood is spilled. Where I come from, a woman’s face is her husband’s business only. I want you to remember that.
When everyone thinks about war they cannot picture in their mind what it would be like out on a battlefield with a bunch of good friends, fighting side by side. They cannot picture the horrible and nasty sights you will see on a battlefield of men dying, their bodies being shot everywhere or being blown to pieces. Maybe from a movie they might have seen a battle or war, but it’s not even close to the same. They are people that you care for and love that have just been killed, live and in front of your face. You cannot do anything but watch them suffer and try to keep fighting.

An animalistic roar cut through the still rather cold air, just as a few instructions were exchanged between the men down in the street through yelling and shouting. The animal, painted with red color that highly contrasting with its skin, only gave another distressed sound and bucked, making the trinkets on him jingle. The men, trying to calm the beast, all took a step back before the shouting began anew, none of them paying any attention to the silhouette high above them. Malik was paying close attention to the group of the celebrating, watching their efforts to get the animal to the streets for quite some time.
Task 1 I have chosen to read the book “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley. It is a dystopian book about humanity in a future where there is no longer suffering. No one is born from parents anymore; instead, people are cultivated in large Breeding centres, from different castes deciding which tasks they’re going to do in life. The perfect drugs, called soma, are being every week to keep everyone happy, the economy is controlled to perfection, and promiscuity is considered a virtue.

The tipping point for me with this assignment was having an incredibly painful conversation with someone, S. It was an accident. I wasn’t planning on talking to her, and I certainly wasn’t planning on having it tie into this assignment. It just sort of happened. This conversation was drastically different than my dialectic. I felt very calm and mutual and constructive during the dialectic.
