President John F. Kennedy was sworn into office on January 19, 1961, and he delivered his famous Inaugural Address. This speech describes, with an optimistic tone, the changes that the country will move towards during and after his presidency. Kennedy’s purpose is to give the American citizens an understanding of his goals for peace, strength, and progress. He speaks to the people in a conversational tone in order to establish a comfortable connection.
