Patients reacted positively towards the iPad and seemed comfortable and familiar with the technology.

Similarly, the iPad was well received by dietitians. Dietitians liked using the iPad in their education sessions and were keen to see this technology being used more in the future.

Dietitians with experience of using the resource found that the lack of familiarity with physically using the device impacted their comfort levels and the ease with which education was provided.
“It takes a while to go through everything, so it’s a little bit uncomfortable for the user, for the dietitian, purely from the perspective of you know, you’re craning your neck sitting there and swiping for quite a while.” (Dietitian with experience 2)
Lack of familiarity with the contents of the resource also impacted on dietitians’ ability to efficiently use the resource with patients. “You really need to be familiar with the content of your resource, because if you want to flip back and forth...you’d really need to be familiar with how to locate it [the information]” (Dietitian without experience 5)
Dietitians without experience of using the resource indicated that carrying around an additional device may be an inconvenience.
“Because an iPad you’ve got to keep secure when you’re carrying it on the wards… I couldn’t leave an iPad unattended, so if I was using it specifically to educate a patient I would feel I would need to come back to the office to drop it back in” (Dietitian without experience 5)
