The treatment of slaves between the North and the South was drastically different. Slaves in the North typically lived in the same house as their master and worked by themselves, or in small groups (pg. 94). Slaves in the South tended to live in large plantations in which they were housed in plantation outbuildings (pg. 104). The difference between the North and the South in housing and working environment had a direct effect on the integration of African Americans into their new American society. When they were housed in the North with their masters and had limited exposure to other slaves, they tended to adopt the ways of their masters.

Between 1450 and 1750, European countries in the Caribbean and in the Old World utilized two forms of cheap labor—slavery and serfdom—to line their coffers and feed their populace. In the Caribbean, slavery was preferred; but in Russia, serfdom ruled.
Resistance to slavery was a response from both African and African American slaves. There are similarities and differences in the types of resistance shown by each group. Some would argue that their overall resistance to slavery was similar due to likenesses in physical resistance. Others would argue that their resistance was different because of the varying degrees and methods of responses. African resistance to slavery has more differences than similarities to African American resistance because of the effects of the physical response, the extent of active rebellion, and the differences in intellectual resistance.
Being enslaved was not an easy job for African Americans. African Americans survived slavery through their connection with their culture. They then went on to contribute to the economic and social development of the South and America. African Americans survived the institution of slavery and Africanized the American South. They helped free themselves by sticking together as a family, resisting, as well as wanting slavery to change.
While slavery and black freedom were a huge topic, the one right behind it was women 's rights. There were many women at this time that started to speak out. There were many black women such as Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman who both started the movement not only to African American rights, but womens rights too. Between 1800 and 1860 two major things changed within the country. The cash crops changed from tobacco and rice to the new money maker cotton. Along with the crops changing the slave trade grew to replace the economic short fall in the Chesapeake area. These changed occurred due to the supply and demand of commonly bought goods. Another contributing factor for the crops changing was the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 and the use of cotton in textile facilities.
The New World was set into motion with the new found methods of transportation and an abundance of items to trade during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As this happened people began to moved around more freely and the slave trade started. The slave being brought over were typically traditional native African Yoruba believers, which were soon forced to interact and intermingled with the Roman Catholicism of the slave masters and plantation owner who they were now surrounded by. Similarities were soon found between the two seemingly contradictory religions, such as the believing in a single almighty God, the use of supernatural beings (angels) who can communicate between God and humans, as well as adhering to that spirits of the dead
In summary, the slave trade and the slavery itself was indeed a blight in the American nation, due to its toll on individuals. Africans were very vulnerable to the slave trade, as they were the choice of the European colonial powers and expansionists due to their immunity to diseases. As the desirability of wealth and power overwhelmingly grew, African natives traded their own people for manufactured goods. The Africans were treated nothing more than possessions, being abused along their journey to the New World. The enslaved had to suffer through a long, painful journey to the Caribbean, whilst some did not survive due to the poor conditions of the ships provided by the Europeans.
How big of impact could slavery have done to Africa at least that’s what they said? The slave trade had huge and horrible impact on Africa because it resulted in a tremendous loss of life, Africa has not developed economically as a result of the Slave trade, and Africa still suffers and is unable to provide food and water for its people. Africa had a huge loss of people but to be exact “nearly 90 percent of the Africans in these two major regions came from only four zones in Africa. ”(“The Transatlantic Slave Trade”, para 48) all had to go even against their will 10 million enslaved men, women, and children from West and East Africa to North Africa, the Middle East, and India.
