Coastal vs Plateau: A Native American Cultural Comparison Although many Native American tribes are spread across the United States, Washington has a few of the most prominent and memorable tribes. The United States tribes such as Washington have developed throughout the years with their change to climate and environmental resources. Despite the geographical difference, the Coastal and Plateau tribes of Washington share abundant cultural similarities alongside the critical differences that make both tribes unique. Both tribes share similarities and differences between location, tools and implements, and food. First of all, the locations of the Coastal and Plateau tribes have had an impact on the culture of Washington state. Both Coastal and Plateau tribes had abundant resources through one common thing; the water. Both tribes used their access to the water to provide food for the land. The Plateau tribes had access to the Columbia River while the Coastal tribes lived alongside the Puget Sound. However, the Coastal and Plateau tribes had differences in their locations too.
