The only candy on this list that originated in Germany, Gummy Bears are gummy candies that come in five flavors. They have many of the same flavors as Tootsie Pops. This includes sugar, citric acid, and flavoring. Gummy bears also have many flavors in common with Tootsie Pops. These flavors are strawberry, blue raspberry, cherry, orange, and watermelon.
Kwanzaa is a seven day or “week-long” celebration held in the United States and in the Americas and other nations of the West African diaspora. The celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, with a feast and partaking of gifts. Kwanzaa has seven core principles. It was created by Maulana Karenga and was first celebrated in 1966 through 1967. Maulana Ndabezitha Karenga (born Ronald McKinley Everett July 14, 1941) is an African-American professor of Africana studies, activist and author, best known as the creator of the African-American holiday of Kwanzaa.
In some houses they decorated with Spain de Noël, which is a tree decorated with apples, paper flowers, and ribbons. Also mistletoe is hung like in our celebrations. Most people from French Guiana enjoy eating meats, like smoked ham. They like eating deserts like chocolate desert in the shape of a log and the orange cheesecake. Christmas, people like to celebrate with Ti 'punch, a traditional drink of lime, sugar cane syrup, and rum.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States and accomplished many great things during his two terms in office. He founded National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the highway interstate, signed civil rights legislation which gave protection to African American voters, and he signed the Atom for Peace Plan which prevented countries from using their nuclear powers. Gutzon Borglum was the artist who sculpted Mount Rushmore. He chose the four presidents which are carved in the mountain based on their role in preserving the republic of our country and expanding its territory. Eisenhower meets these standards with all that he accomplished as president.
Kevin Millard writes about fry bread and how that particular dish is exceedingly important to Indigenous peoples. My version of fry bread is caldo de pollo, in english the direct translation is broth of chicken or chicken broth. Caldo de pollo is a traditional hot soup that is both made in my Mexican and Guatemalan backgrounds. The main ingredients include but are definitely not limited to piernas de pollo (chicken legs), elote (corn), papas (potatoes), and vegetales (vegetables). Just like fry bread, there are many different variations of caldo de pollo, the dish itself is always in a constant change.

Making Tamales The tamale, also known as the tamalii, is popular throughout parts of the world. The tamale gets its meaning “wrapped food” from the corn husks, which surrounds the outside of the tamale. Though nobody knows when or who invented the tamale it is said to have been traced as far back as 5000 BC and were served as battle food for the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas soldiers.
In the morning they had coffee, or boiled water with what looked like coffee beans. That is what they had for breakfast. Period. For lunch, the survivors ate a very watered down soup with the ingredients consisting of potatoes, rutabagas, and flower. To top it all off, for dinner the prisoners ate bread, a little piece of sausage, and a tablespoon of either marmalade or cheese.

In recent years the addition of new drinks and dishes in Soul Food such as kool-aid and Mac and Cheese, has a history that can be traced back to their origins in America and West Africa. For instances, Kool Aid was a new refreshing drink that was created in 1927 during the Great Migration, the recipe was originally inspired by, “a line of red beverage stretching back to drinks made with kola nuts in western parts of Africa (Adrian Miller,Soul Food). From soulfood we can learn how two distinct culture(American and African) were able to infuse into one another and create a new wonderful lifestyle that is full of traditions and pride showcased in all of African American communities throughout the nation. From soulfood we can learn the war African Americans have to fight daily in order to built their home in the United States. Most importantly, from Soul Food we are able to see how the culture of African American people began to grow and be apart of how this nation was constructed. Without Soulfood, America would simply not be the same. Starting with the fact that there would not be Thanksgiving.
The Great Migration was a big part during and after World War One. During World War One as many as 367,000 African Americans served in the military. So many joined because they were trying to prove their loyalty to America. This movement began between 1910 and 1970. About 6 million African Americans tried moving from Southern United States to the North.
But, this is closer to the lifestyles of the Luiseño Tribe, and the Cahuilla Tribe, which both incorporated the plants native to the land into their diets. This business requires the Natives to be good at many things, the most important is their ability to grow the things that they can sell, or cook. Also, they need to be very skilled at cooking and baking, because at the orchard, a wide variety of baked goods and foods are offered for the customer to buy. They make baked goods, cereal, dressings, snacks and mixes, supplements, soups, and sweets. One of their very important items is the date shake, which has become more popular recently.
My aunt Wanda makes the best cornbread, sweet and buttery. One might think, how is cornbread considered a tradition of soul food? The most common bread to slaves was corn bread. It was often fed to them with a mixture of milk or buttermilk. In fact, molasses and cornbread was a special treat for slave children.
The Soul food diet began during slavery. Slavery began in early times, and it was the act of a person owning another person as property (Merriam-Webster online). As explained in the documentary, slaves were fed the cheapest food. For example, they were fed leftover rice that was not sold and they were expected to grow their own food.
Southerners didn’t have all of the heavier foods that the Northerners had. They had more vegetables due to the amount of farms in the South. One vegetable that was a main staple for the soldiers in the South were peas. Many fruits at the time were filled with lots of bacteria and it would cause diseases and sicknesses when eaten, so it was avoided as much as possible. Tobacco took the place of most of the foods because it was easy to find and distribute.
